Meet the Staff

Ed & Joan Kane: Owners and operators since 1987 when they opened the restaurant. Ed & Joan came to Lake Placid in 1982 and started the Artist Cafe and eventually purchased the property where the Steak & Seafood operates. Ed works 7 days a week coming to work at 7 AM and Joan can be found around the building everyday after 11 AM. They are always willing to chat especially about the Marine Corps. Ed is a Korean War Veteran serving 6 years in the Marine Corps as an officer.

Rob Kane Sr. : Has been with the company from the very beginning. He is in charge of the daily operations of the restaurant; you can usually find him during the daytime at the restaurant unless he sneaks away for a round of golf, lazy boy recliner, day on the lake, or resting at mid-station with his boots off after 1 run at Whiteface (He tends to whine about his feet aching).

Rob Kane Jr. : Started working his way up the job ladder when he was in high school and eventually left for college only to leave early and commit to 5 years of the Marine Corps as an Attack Helicopter Technician. Robbie came back to work and eventually decided to stay in Lake Placid overseeing all marketing aspects of the restaurant and took over brewing operations as of late, and is working hard on his brewery expansion plans. Good luck finding him on Sundays in the fall; Robbie is a NY Giants season ticket holder. He can be found in the brewery or on the golf course, mountain (without the mid-station breaks), or on the lake.

Tom Sharlow: Tom is our General Manager overseeing our liquor inventory and general night time operations. Tom is behind the bar 5 nights a week (usually) and enjoys working on his 30 handicap golf game (he can’t drive the ball more than 200 yards) or snowmobiling in the winter. As soon as winter hits you know Tom is working if you see a fire burning outside that reaches 10 feet high and seems to have more wood stacked on it than humanly possible.

Paul Fryman: Paul has been with us for about 2 1/2 years on and off between stints at Snake River Brewing Company as an assistant brewer and his time in lovely Ohio working on his own brewery plans. He’s back with us as an interim brewer and longtime consultant for Robbie as he tries to learn how to make the worlds finest beers. Paul enjoys working out at the gym, drinking session beers, and has a strong distaste for any sort of grain except in beers. We think he’s kind of weird but that’s another conversation. If you want to find Paul, first check the brewery; he’s the short guy who constantly wears 80′s style cutoff jean shorts.
